Invisible A-Pillar Concept

This sketch indicates where the A-Pillar display screens are located.  The screens display an image of what is on the other side of the pillar.  This presents the driver with an augmented peripheral view of the driving conditions for increased situational awareness.

In this sketch, the distinctive blind spot created by the A-Pillar location indicates the location of the display screen.

Here, I am working through the idea of how the display array would be positioned.  Additionally, there is a sketch of how the assembly is mounted to the A-Pillar structure of the vehicle.

To present the concept in a coherent and unified way I came up with this poster. This accompanied a small model for submittal to the International Traffic Safety Symposium.

Thanks. I was inspired by an incident that occurred to me while driving years ago where no one was at fault but where a potentially serious accident almost happened. Two converging vehicles at stable velocities will remain in a diminishing cone of non-visibility relative to each other. With current camera and led/oled technology this is feasible.
